Saduak Floating Market in Bangkok

Souvenirs shopping at floating market ???.. No thanks. Expensive, the price of souvenirs here were at least double from the price that you can get at the night market in Bangkok or chaktuchak market. The boat ride is nice but you will need to be sure you are not ripped off, as these floating market are very much monopolized. Well, I’ve tried to bargain hard, but it’s still expensive.

However, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market still offers a fairly authentic glimpse into what was once the way of life in Thailand. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market exists mainly for tourists, but that doesn’t detract from what is a very interesting morning away from Bangkok. Situated 110 kms west of Bangkok, this old style and traditional way of selling and buying fruits, vegetables, hot-meals and all manner of products and produce from small boats. Totally chaotic, small khlongs (canals) are full of small flat boats piled high with fresh produce, each jockeying for position, and paddled by ladies ready to stop and bargain at any opportunity.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is noisy and colourful, a little bit “touristy”,  but still great fun. It was 2hours drive from Bangkok city.
