A taste of older Kyoto. Arashiyama is easy to get to and a charming side trip out of the centre of Kyoto. Take the Randen, a tram that runs along between buildings and through suburbs and gives you a close look at the district. The temples at Arashiyama are fascinating and well worth seeing, the main street is interesting in itself, with small diverse, low-level buildings, and the the walk along the river is lovely. There are wonderful walking paths, stunning vistas, fun boat rides, lovely cafes, all in all a great place to pass a lazy afternoon.
